KYEA

Considering the Youth in All Development Strategies

Strategic Plan

The KYEA board of directors met on 4 May 2008 to lay out a strategic plan for the next six months. They decided that the following activities would be carried out:

- Academic seminars at local secondary schools.

- Conduct Life Skills seminars at local secondary schools.

- Open a shop selling baked goods as a fundraiser and to promote sound and creative buisness strategies for the Kalisio Youth.

In addition, on the administrative end:

- A bank account will be opened by June 1.

- ID cards will be printed for all members.

- A stamp will be procured.

- A sign-post will be made.

Finally, a launching committee was formed that will be in charge of the official launch which will occur sometime in December 2008.

Teaching Life Skills

KYEA members Jon, George, Peter, Julius and Marium gave Life Skills lessons at two local secondary schools, Christ the King and Matale C/U. These lessons, developed by the Peace Corps, help "Bridge the Gap" between knowledge of the problems the youth of today face and living a positive, happy lifestyle. They give youth important skills like confidence, creatvity, problem solving, identifying roles models, generating a positive self-image, gender empowerment, setting goals, being an individual, self-reliance amongst other lessons. These Life Skills help the youth of today avoid the pitfalls of HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancy, drugs, alcohol and abusive relationships.

KYEA Cookbook

We are developing a cookbook that will containt yummy recipes that we are baking as fundraisers for our organization. The latest version is located here.

Bake Sale Fundraiser

To generate income in a sustainable way, without relying on outside funding, KYEA had its first after church bake sale at Matale Parish. The sale was a resounding success! We sold out in about an hour. We sold banana bread, chocolate brownies and ginger snaps. In the future we hope to sell these products at the Rakai Project, around Kalisizo and even at local secondary schools.
